the first day is upon us…my last year with addi before she starts REAL school, she’s so ready for it, me? not so much! the thing is, today is the first day for the girls and they will be learning so much this year…addi will start learning sight words, while camdyn will hopefully expand on her writing skills (yes she can write most of her name, so proud)…. but the thing is i have already learned a little mommy lesson (and its DAY ONE people, imagine how smart i’ll be by christmas break , ha). so lastnight we took them to meet their new teachers, everyone was so excited until they realized that when i said “new” teachers and “new classrooms”, well yeah i wasnt kidding. addi was her usual “nice to meetcha” self hugging any and everyone in sight, new teachers?! yeah no prob mom! camdyn on the other hand was a little more hesitant and reserved…and was SO NOT a fan of addi dragging her over to her new teacher and instructing her to give her a hug. let’s just say we had a “sister moment” that may have involved some huffing and puffing and a little eye rolling from the little ‘un. (okay okay im getting to the point here) so as we are getting in the car i get a “little” misty eyed…okay i start crying…yep ME, THE MOM, is boohoo’ing! why was i crying i mean seriously this was in fact pre k NOT “real school”. but i guess for a moment instead of enjoying the excitement of another year of half days apart i saw it ALL in my head, starting kindergarten, graduating from high school, leaving for college, getting married for goodness sakes!!!! i settled myself down before a full on drama queen breakdown ensued and decided, right then and there (this is all happening in a matter of 10 min btw) that instead of dwelling on whats to come in many many years, i swear/swore to live in these moments, live in THIS moment. and by golly let me tell you, there were no tears, no a single one shed this morning at drop off, just alot of silly faces for first day pictures, fogging camera lenses, and blueberry muffins for breakfast at the request of the cheeks girls!!!!
and now lets have a small discussion about the first day teacher gifts…yeah buddy i whipped up these little first day survival kits for the new and pretty awesome i might add teachers! a bottle of smart water (but of course 😉 ) some startbucks insant coffee singles, lemonade singles, some chocolate (duh), bandaids, cute notepad, a few fine point pens, ice breaker gum (heehee i crack myself up), and some binder clips (i dont know they were cute okay?!) anyhoo here they are 🙂
lol…you are so cute! I love the teacher gifts! I had my boys write letters to their teachers and hand deliver them….it was pretty sweet to see them get all excited about telling their teacher’s about their favorite foods, toys and their birthdays. Hoping teacher will write back by the first day of school 🙂
Either way, cute post!
I just did the same thing (not as cute!) with extra school supplies for the year. Never too early to get on their good side. 😉
oh rachael i love love love that! the girls “stuffed” the bags so of course they “MADE THEM” in their minds and were so proud to give them to their teachers…crossign my fingers she writes back 🙂
What an awesome idea… and I needed this post today as Liam starts Toddler school with backpacks and napmats and open cups… no more infant room on Monday… I believe that I will have a little Shalonda on my shoulder telling me to live in the moment and maybe just maybe I will have time to pack a survival water bottle!
yep. you rock. big time.
Holy awesomeness! Can I be your girls’ teacher?? And yes, it goes too fast. One year left of elementary for this mama. :o(
So I am dying to know what you put in those bags! You are so sweet and creative!
omg – you kill me with your creativity. it is awesome in every way. love it! thanks for inspiring me!
This just too sweet and beautiful as always!.
