I asked my 2024 High School Senior Moms to share some advice to future seniors parents especially for the upcoming class of 2025 graduates and this is what they sent.

Dear Class of 2025 Mom’s,

  1. Pick a Pro for this milestone moment.

I have had a senior two years in a row & even though it would have been less expensive to use “a friend of a friend” or “another senior with a camera” we budgeted to hire a pro. The experience that my girls (and I) had throughout the process and the way they felt so special during the photography shoots was unlike anything we could have gotten if we had not chosen a professional photographer. -JD
Bonus photographer tip: This is no different than when you leaned on a pro for their newborn or first birthday sessions. Plus, the next time they are captured in such a momentous way just might be their wedding day.

  2. Take it all in & take a pic at the end.

There is something about senior year that seems to speed up time and you feel like you are going through the motions, so you don’t feel the EMOTIONS. Hiring Shalonda made it easy to slow things down. She helped us plan every detail and gave us so much information, so we knew exactly what we needed to do and what to expect. It allowed me to take a deep breath and watch my girl have the time of her life laughing in front of the camera. Plus, Shalonda took a pic of us together during the session and even though I was hesitant I already know that the pic is priceless to me. -SB

     3. It’s not just about the day of the session.

I will never forget the shopping trips that lead to lunch dates, the laughs at the session, the excitement when we saw the gallery or the tears when we saw the album. I got             so many core extra memories with my daughter than I expected just from the senior portrait process. – AM

    4. Get Creative with traditional pics.

We have come to Chubby Cheek Photography for pics since my girl was in kindergarten so we obviously couldn’t imagine anyone else taking her senior pics. What I loved about Shalonda back then was her creativity and artistic eye. No session with her was ever boring or basic! I knew she wouldn’t disappoint and she took the traditional cap and gown pics to a whole ‘nother creative and UNIQUE level!!!!! Senior portraits with Chubby Cheek were as magical and beautiful as I imagined. – JD

    5.  A year of “last’s”

Senior year comes barreling in like a freight so be prepared for the tears of a year of “last’s”. Yes, even me, a mom who doesn’t really cry, CRIED (and when I least expected    it), so yes you will cry. Embrace it. Get in the pictures. Celebrate the moments (even through the tears).  Make their favorite desserts. Enjoy a slow Sunday morning breakfast. Yes we all knew this was coming but I promise it will hit you when you least expect it at the most random moments but go with it. You will get better at smiling through it. -KM

     6.  The rollercoaster is real.

Your emotions will swing between heartache and anxiety to crazy excitement and being more proud than you can imagine. It’s okay. You will be okay. I promise you did your job, mama, your senior will be just fine and so will you.  – BJ
