High school in Texas is definitely different, with Friday Night Lights, bigger than Texas Mums and senior portraits. The saying ‘everything is bigger in Texas’ is real when it comes to HOCO week! With two high school daughters of my own I have been capturing their homecoming pics for the last four years. Today, we are going to talk through easy homecoming or prom poses. These tips will ensure pics with your friends and your date are perfect. These poses are perfect for prom or hoco pics in downtown Tomball, your High Meadow Ranch backyard or even the woodlands waterway.
Be on the look out for a jam packed part two. Next, we will discuss tips that are guaranteed to give you super unique and fun homecoming photos.

The Look and Laugh
This pose is so simple and easy to do with a group or just you and your date. All you have to do is all look at each other and laugh but no obnoxious open mouths. A simple giggle will bring real laughs so be sure to tell your photographer to keep snapping. Pro Tip: Do this same thing far away, close up and in different settings to have a variety of easy and fun images. This prompt can also be done with just you and your date. Simply walk toward the camera alternating looking at each other and at the camera while laughing.

The Twirl
Yep the twirl is exactly what it sounds like it is. However I have a few tips to make it perfect. If you’re shooting pics with a cell phone turn on burst mode so you only need to hit the capture button once. Also be sure that you pause mid twirl to show off the back of your dress. If you don’t know what to do with your hand that’s not twirling casually hold your bouquet down by your side or touch the bottom hemline of your dress.

Boss Walk Across the Street
You have to “own” this if you’re going to do it! This one is great for all guy or all girl pics but also fun for the group. And side note this one reminded us moms of the cast of Friends, haha. Start with and all guy group shot and have each guy vary their hand placement. For example, one guy hands in pockets, one holding his cuff, and another by his side. Then have them walk. That’s its. BE ready because this one usually takes a few tries and I suggest doing it a few times to ensure everybody has at least one shot that they look good in. Make sure the guys all stay next to each other in a line so that they are on the same plane if someone is shooting with a DSLR or mirrorless.

Don’t Forget the Details
Make sure you capture the details of your day! Hoco Bouquet, heels, putting on boutonniere, etc. The details show your personality and are just as much a part of your day as the actual event itself.
