Once you book your Houston Family photoshoot I get to work styling your family! The first bit of photoshoot homework you get, is a short clothing questionnaire. This ensures that I am searching for the right sizes and colors for each family member. While I know that, not every client wants to be styled. But I promise these tips are guaranteed to help anyone planning an upcoming family photoshoot in Houston or any city.
When selecting colors, it’s important to think about the colors you use in your home as well as where you will be displaying your images. However it is also important to choose colors that you feel confident in. I also encourage my clients to “coordinate” rather than “match”. My favorite tip is to easily add layers with long necklaces or hats, and textures with chunky cardigans.
Top 3 color combinations for beautiful family portraits
Jewel tones
Teal, rust and cream
Jewel tones are my current favorite and especially ones that include teal. Teal really pops in all locations and looks beautiful on all skin tones. Rust/orange makes my Aggie heart cringe but it is the perfect color in a very green Houston field.
Not so bland Neutrals
Basically I call this neutrals with a pop because the primary colors are neutral tones like creams, blacks, greys, browns but there are some small pops of colors. I love coordinating the pops of colors based on the season. For example, in the fall I would coordinate with rich maroons and and army green. And in the spring I would sprinkle in pastel pinks and dusty blues.
All Neutrals
Think shades or cream and white paired with grey’s or camels. This color palette is perfect for any location and any time of the year! It’s also easy to find. You won’t believe where I found mom’s vintage looking lace dress be sure to browse through the other categories for more fun and useful products.
