Listen up mama! I know from experience as your babies get older you do NOT actually have more time to yourself. And I know we are all tired of hearing the “only have 4 more summers, Christmases, etc with your teenager” blah blah blah! So how can we freeze the time we have left with our teens?  Yep you guessed it, easy and fun Family photos. Here in the Tomball- Magnolia area we have a plethora of club teams for any sport you can imagine.  This influx of after school commitments makes scheduling a session a little tricky. Plus at Tomball Memorial, Mag West, Bridgeland and Tomball High schools there is no shortage of late night reasons to be at the school. I’m going to hook you up with some tips for grabbing a fall family session that not only you will love but your teen or tween will too!

Think outside of the weekend box

Search for a photographer who has some availability during the weekday if your kids sporting events are on the weekend. Also consider a session date in early fall before daylight savings.  The sunset times in August and September right now in Houston are right about 8:15pm.  This allows your family plenty of time to get showered and dolled up after school activities.

Up the “Cool” Factor

Up’ping the “cool” factor is as simple as finding a photographer that has an arsenal of amazing locations.  Believe it or not Houston has some pretty incredible urban locations to choose from.  We even have an abundance of urban locations outside of Downtown Houston. For example, urban locations can be found in the middle of The Woodlands, around downtown Tomball and even all the way out in the small towns in the outskirts. So be sure to discuss the types of locations that fit your family’s style with your photographer right away.

Book Ahead of the Masses

I book my fall season in July, so if you wait until school start to inquire for a family session you are almost always too late. So you need look for session openings from you favorites photographers as early as August. And of course consider a session in off peak times such as March, April and June.

Bring the FUN

I have traveled all over the world teaching other photographers my family session strategy of the Art of Play. Sessions with me are a series of games and prompts to ensure that your family has fun and enjoys memorable moments during the photoshoot. I have spent the past 14 years photographing every age from toddlers to teens and to be honest the two aren’t that different.  My unique games can entertain the most temperamental toddlers and tame the most unenthused teens.  I even have a few that work on grumpy dads ;).

Guess what? You will never get this moment back.  The world keeps spinning and life moves fast.  Don’t let another undocumented moment pass you by without capturing your legacy for your future. I’m opening up a few more Fall family sessions and even another weekend of Fall Christmas minis this week.  Let me hold your hand, mama…As a MOM and a photographer, don’t worry, together, we’ve got this!
