Today, we are going to lay it all out about what the optimal season is in North Houston for the best family photos. Everything you need to know when booking a family photoshoot in Tomball, The Woodlands and other Houston cities.
If you have lived in Texas for more than a day then you know that the weather forecast is mostly a joke. Houston weather changes it’s mind more than I do when deciding where I want to eat for a date night. So spoiler alert, this was sort of a trick question. The good news is there is NO SEASON that I would not book a family session here in Texas. However, let’s pro/con each season to determine which one fits your family’s needs.
Winter season has its photoshoot perks.
December through February is one of the rare neutral colored times of the year here in Houston. So if you love brown wheat colored grass and potentially moody skies this season is for you. With mild winter’s, scheduling during these months is actually a luxury most families in other cities don’t have. This also means most clients are so burned out from the holidays that availability for a photoshoot with your favorite photographer is going to be optimal. So I challenge you to take advantage of our mild weather and a neutral colored landscape and book a winter session.

Spring is everybody’s “go-to” for family pics.
As soon as the first Texas wildflower blooms any true Texas mom starts thinking about photos. Warm weather and bluebonnet lined Houston roads seem to jumpstart busy season number one, Spring. Yes, the wildflowers as color and beauty to your family images. However booking might be tricky. Pro Tip: Reach out to your favorite photographer at the end of January to see if their calendar is open.

Summer Season equals Travel and Beach Photo fun.
Okay so late spring early summer is personally my favorite time of the year to capture family’s in Houston because “water”. Yep, jumping in the Galveston Beach waves or splashing in a Cypress Creek means a photoshoot filled with fun. If your family craves movement and adventure a summer session is perfect for you. Pro tip: Forehead sweat magically disappears on camera so don’t let the heat scare you from booking a summer session.

Fall Madness means Christmas crazy.
You know from this blog post that I think waiting until the Fall to book your family photoshoot is risky but if you insist go for it. My biggest tip for booking in the fall is to give grace and plan ahead. Give grace to your photographer, period. Family Fall Photoshoot season is like tax season for accountants, so expect delays. Most family photographers run on coffee and zero sleep during this time of the year so be sure to book early. I offer my rainout dates at the time of booking limited edition mini sessions so weather doesn’t add any stress to anyone during the holidays. Fall is the most unpredictable weather in Houston so prepare for rainouts and overnight cold snaps.
But, like I said in the beginning if you are feeling right this very minute that you are ready to capture your family’s messy but beautiful moments, then do it…no matter what season it is. Here is the deal, time doesn’t wait for flowers or blue skies. Babies don’t keep and teens head off to college. You might wake up tomorrow and your 12 year old might be taller than you (I know from firsthand experience). So if you have that little voice telling you to just book the photoshoot, BOOK IT! In fact, I am opening my calendar for the spring of 2023 right now, so send me a message before these sets are gone!
