The Evolution of a Houston Photographer
From babies to seniors
To understand how we got to today’s post about Amber’s stunning senior photos, you have to know where I’ve been on my family photography journey. Back in 2009 when I decided newborn family photography was not as exciting anymore. (By the way if you click that link no judgement, it was my first senior photoshoot). So I closed my eyes and jumped into the world of capturing high school seniors. I started a spin off brand of chubby cheek photography and spend 4 years photographing seniors from high schools all over Houston, while raising two toddler girls. In 2015, the family photography side was overbooked and the senior photography side had to hit pause.
Fast forward to 2017, as a mom of two girls when this sister called asking to book her own senior pics I had to say yes. I wasn’t quite ready to open the senior photography doors again but never say never right?! When you have been in business for 17 years you have clients that met you when they bad baby’s and are now getting ready to let those babies fly off to college. And so that is where we are. The past two years I have been capturing some of those clients, whom I met at squishy newborns and are now beautiful young ladies! My photography business has come full circle.
What Seniors & Mom’s Want
With my own daughters halfway through their own high school years I have called back into the senior pics vibe. You see as a Texas mom and photographer I know high school pics mean a little more in the South. I know, that mom’s want their daughters to look like 17/18 year olds in these pictures not necessarily Vogue supermodels. I have teenaged daughters so I also know that senior girls these days have skin care routines, makeup skills and clothing styles like million plus influencers. (Hello Bama Rush Tock!)
So here we go, embarking on a teary goodbye series of high school senior kids sessions. Little secret about me: I cry as much that these clients have grown up as I do that my own girls have. Send Kleenex and ice cream for me over the next few years.
